Yu Gi Oh fans mark your calendars, as January will be the comeback of the popular franchise in the U.S., thanks to its new film. The sneak peak offers nostalgia as we once more get to see Yugi Muto, Seto Kaiba, Joey Wheeler, Tea Gardner and more.
Yu Gi Oh! nostalgia all over again
The first sneak peek kicks off with Joey being shown getting his duel disk back while walking with Yugi and Tea on a bridge. Yugi then reminisces on how he misses Atem, Joey comforts him, but later we found out that he misses Atem all the time.
In the ending of the original Yu Gi Oh anime we see Atem disappearing in a gold light after Yugi defeated him in the last battle. For non-fans of the anime, Atem is the pharaoh who embodied Yugi courtesy of the Millennium Puzzle.
In the latest teaser trailer, we get to see Yugi and Tea’s relationship maybe progressing a little. The end of it shows Tea telling Yugi that she was sorry she kept him waiting. This progress in the story is sure to make fans feel a bit giddy.
What the film has to offer?
Kazuki Takahashi, the original creator of Yu Gi Oh, promises new designs and an all-new story that took a decade in the making. The film’s synopsis also implies higher stakes, fiercer rivalries and even greater risks than the anime.
Comic Book reported the movie getting lots of rave reviews when it first appeared in Japan in 2016. 4K Media will be teaming up with Screenvision Media to distribute the movie in select cinemas in U.S. and Canada. The film, entitled Yu Gi Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions will be open for two weeks starting January 27.
On the other hand, Spring 2017 welcomes a new Yu Gi Oh series thanks to TV Tokyo. The anime will be featuring Yusaku Fujiki embarking on his journey to the world of Duel Monsters.
