Back to Its Origins

For those who are not familiar with it, Yu-Gi-Oh (Game King) is a Japanese manga series all about gaming which is written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi. Between Sept. 30, 1996 to March 8, 2004, it was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The storyline talks about a boy named Yugi Mutou. He solves the ancient Millennium Puzzle and awakens a gambling alter-ego in his body. It solves various conflicts through different games.

There were two anime adaptations produced. One by Toei Animation which was aired from April 4, 1998 to Oct. 10, 1998. Then there’s another one produced by NAS and animated by Studio Gallop which was entitled Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. This aired from April 2000 to September 2004. The series has then spawned a franchise which includes multiple spinoff of manga and anime series, numerous video games, and a trading card game. Many of the incarnations of the franchise come with the fictional trading card game called Duel Monsters. In here, players use cards to battle it out with each other with fantasy monsters.
