Microsoft announced Xbox Project Scorpio E3 event via Twitter

Back in 2015, Microsoft’s Xbox team officially announced its next generation gaming console, the Xbox Project Scorpio. Most gamers would know by now that the high-end gaming system will be released sometime later this year. However, there is a really high chance that the Project Scorpio will get another air time this June.

The Xbox team just announced through Twitter that they will be having a briefing during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The said event, which will take place in California on June 11, will also highlight other game developers in addition to the Xbox.

Last January, the Xbox team sort of clarified a few things about the Project Scorpio. According to the team’s lead engineer, gamers should wait for games on the Project Scorpio to be announced first before pre-ordering. This led many to speculate that the pre-order dates for the upcoming console might start immediately after the E3 event.

This is mainly due to the fact that a number of games slated for the console are rumored to be announced during the said event. Furthermore, it’s appearance in the event could also imply that Microsoft is nearing completion of the design. Hence, it is now ready to move to production. Unfortunately, these are mere speculations and must be taken with a grain of salt.

Microsoft’s Project Scorpio is the company’s answer to Sony’s Playstation 4 Pro. Both consoles boast of high-performance hardware that supports 4K UHD gaming. The new console will run on a custom AMD Jaguar SoC with a Polaris-like GPU. The GPU alone is capable of performing six trillion floating point calculations per second. Unfortunately, a previously released white paper seem to claim that the performance enhancing embedded static RAM will not be included in the SoC. Nevertheless, the team assured game developers that the Project Scorpio will be able to perform well.

It is still unknown whether or not the pre-order dates will be announced during the E3 event. The only thing sure so far is that Microsoft will be discussing a lot about the Project Scorpio during the event. Nonetheless, between now and June 11, a lot of things can still happen.
