Microsoft started rolling out the Xbox One US and UK update last June 30. In case you missed it, here?s the quick rundown of the new features included in the update.

Cortana on Xbox One

Probably the most anticipated upgrade for the Xbox One is the inclusion of Cortana. Cortana is ?an intelligent personal assistant? that was first introduced by Microsoft last 2014. Ever since then, Cortana has been available for all Windows operating systems. This integration introduces more voice commands for the Xbox, according to Mike Ybarra, Head of Platform Engineering at Microsoft.

Through Cortana, users will be able to check on their friends, start a party, search for new apps, and send messages among other things. ?We?ll continue to build more Cortana features over time as part of our vision to have Cortana to be your personal digital assistant for gaming?, said Mike.

Language Region Independence

This new feature lets Xbox users set the default system language independent of their locale. This will enable users to move to a different location without affecting the language settings of their units.

Xbox and Windows Store Convergence

Xbox Store helps users find their favorite games faster and easier thanks to the improved shopping experience. Gamers will now be able to filter their searches by genre, read reviews and more.

The Windows Store now supports purchase for games, DLCs, season passes, and virtual currency for games. You can also redeem Xbox token as well as make subscriptions through the Windows Store.

Facebook Friend Finder

Finding your Xbox friends has never been easier thanks to this new feature. Now, you can connect your Facebook account to your Xbox Live account and see which of your friends are online.

Background Music

With this update, gamers can now listen to their favorite music in the background while playing on their Xbox One. Initially, only the Pandora app will be supported. However, further updates will soon include Groove Music, ?iHeartRadio, and other music apps.

Other notable improvements include Xbox App for iOS and Android, improved sharing on Xbox One, 60 fps game play recording as well as better full-screen support for the Game Bar, and Xbox Live integration of Windows 10 PC games.
