WWE SummerSlam 2016 has just ended after four hours of head-smashing, butt-kicking fights that sizzled at the start and ended with a fizzle. Not that this year?s much-awaited wrestling event failed to deliver the meat–it had a number of adrenalin-packed fights from Sasha Banks? defeat to John Cena?s loss–but four hours may be a good stretch to keep the audience up on their feet. A few hours after the kick-off, the audience started to boo some of the fights for lack of anything else to do. But not for these three fun-filled matches:
WWE SummerSlam 2016 got off to a nice treat with the Sasha Banks-Charlotte fight. Banks started off with impressive multiple hurricanranas and a top-rope Boston Crab that saw her opponent locked in a Banks? hold twice. But Charlotte did a rally and she was able to roll over Banks and pin her down on her shoulders for a three-count win. Charlotte took the women?s champion via pinfall.
Meantime, John Cena suffered a pinfall loss also to AJ Styles in a fight filled with old-school moves. Styles threw a Pele kick before dealing Cena with a Styles Clash. But Cena was able to wiggle out after two counts, before countering with an Attitude Adjustment and his own two counts. Fans exchanged banter as the two wrestlers closed in for the kill with no one appearing to have the upperhand. Styles threw a slam off a torture rack, while Cena dealt Styles with a powerslam-slash-Diamond Cutter. Styles would win via pinfall even as Cena tried to grab the belt with a tornado DDT and top-rope leg drop that failed to stop Styles.
But the main game arguably belonged to Brock Lesnar when he defeated Randy Orton via TKO. Lesnar delivered an early attack by throwing Orton onto the ringside table. Orton countered with an RKO to stop Lesnar and put the game back inside the ring. The two then exchanged F5 and RKO, until Lesnar was able to pin his opponent with an MMA-like ground and pounding. The referee stopped the fight after Orton?s head kept on bleeding during the lock.
