Another week means another roster reveal for WWE 2K17. After a disappointing first week and a slightly better second week, the third week has impressed many fans by introducing new characters and two returnees who haven’t been in a WWE game in a while. 2K Games has also released gameplay footage of the wrestling simulator’s backstage brawls and ladder matches, along with a new entrance for the WWE Tag Team Champions, the New Day.
While fans were expecting them, it’s really nice to see AJ Styles, Becky Lynch and the Dudley Boyz in this year’s game. This is the first WWE game AJ Styles has appeared in, while the Dudley Boyz have not appeared in a WWE game since the first Smackdown vs Raw on PlayStation 2.
The NXT Edition teased them, but now it’s official: Alexa Bliss, Dana Brooke and Emma are also in the game. While Emma was in last year’s game, she was still in her babyface dancing gimmick, so this is the first time we will be seeing her new heel persona in the game. This is the in-game debuts for Alexa Bliss and Dana Brooke, so fans can expect to see Bayley and Asuka in WWE 2K17 as well.
IGN has also confirmed a number of modern superstars and legends who will be in this year’s game. They are: Alundra Blayze, Arn Anderson, Bam Bam Bigelow, Bo Dallas, Butch, Christian, Curtis Axel, Dolph Ziggler, Eva Marie, Fandango, Kofi Kingston, Lita, Mr. Perfect, Naomi, Natalya, Neville, Randy Savage, Rick Rude, Rikishi, Shawn Michaels, Stardust, Sting, Summer Rae, Tamina, Tatsumi Fujinami,Trish Stratus, Tyler Breeze and Xavier Woods.
Most fans can agree that this year’s game will have a pretty stacked roster, though it is a bit of a shock that Stardust made it into the game since he was released earlier this year. Will we see Damien Sandow and Ryback as well? We might find out next week.
To top it all off, there are gameplay videos of the new Backstage Brawls as well as the new Ladder Match mechanics. The Backstage Brawls are filled with interactive environments and weapons, which should make them a favorite match type from here on out. The Ladder Match has a new mechanic for taking the belt/suitcase down, which makes the match type even more challenging.
WWE 2K17 is slated for an October 11 release for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Fans who pre-order the game can get Goldberg as a special playable character. Those who order the NXT Edition can get Goldberg as well as Shinsuke Nakamura, Nia Jax and Apollo Crews.
