There is plenty of excitement for this year’s WWE 2K17. The recent reveal of the NXT edition shows that there will be a focus on younger talent for this year’s game, while having Goldberg as a pre-order character shows that the company has not forgotten their past. With that in mind, one has to wonder if Shane McMahon will be a big part of this year’s game, maybe even get a Showcase mode dedicated to his career.
IGN recently revealed that Shane, along with his sister Stephanie and his father Vince, were added to the game as playable characters. This isn’t a huge shocker since they were in last year’s game, but there is a chance we will get updated character models of the McMahons, along with older ones.
Since Shane has been getting so much focus on WWE TV lately, including being in charge of the company’s second show Smackdown, it’s been rumored that he would be a big part of WWE 2K17. Most of this stems from the hype his return got when he took on The Undertaker in WrestleMania 32 in a Hell in a Cell match. He lost, sure, but he put on a good effort.
Shane has had a fairly interesting career and even did a lot of wrestling. He was part of the Alliance in 2001 and was a part of the main event of that year’s Survivor Series. He also took part in a lot of Hardcore matches that would have killed a normal man, but as proven time and time again, Shane is fearless.
Aside from his matches with The Undertaker, he had stellar matches with his father Vince, Kurt Angle, Steve Blackman and a host of other superstars. There is definitely enough for a Showcase mode, or at least a bonus DLC Showcase. Most fans would probably prefer the Showcase to be about an actual wrestler in the company though.
WWE 2K17 will be coming out in October 11 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Those that pre-order the game will get WCW Champion Goldberg as a special character. There is also a special NXT edition that comes with Shinsuke Nakamura, Nia Jax and Apollo Crews.
