When it was revealed that WWE 2K17 would have former WCW Champion Goldberg as the latest pre-order character, fans everywhere were wondering if he would make a return to the WWE afterward. The end of the pre-order trailer showed Goldberg looking at a Suplex City sign, implying that there could be a possible rematch between Brock Lesnar ? the game?s cover star ? and Goldberg. That does not seem likely, now that Goldberg stated that he would not be returning to the company.
In an interview with 411, Goldberg said that the WWE has not contacted him for an in-ring return. Their current relationship seems to be strictly business-oriented, which is why he is the pre-order character for the game. Goldberg was also asked if he was contacted to be in the WWE Hall of Fame, but he said he wasn?t.
It seems like fans can only see the Goldberg vs Lesnar rematch in WWE 2K17, which might not be a bad thing. Their first and only match in WrestleMania 20 was awful and something that the WWE does not want fans to remember. It was the last night for both superstars and they didn?t even try putting on a good match, which is one of the many reasons why they were booed out of the building.
Goldberg won the rematch, but Lesnar?s manager Paul Heyman told Games Radar that a future rematch might not bode well for Goldberg. Lesnar has changed since then, becoming an incredibly dominant world champion in 2015 and is set to compete in UFC 200 later this year.
Though it might be sad that Goldberg won?t be joining the main roster anytime soon, fans not watching the current product are missing out. The WWE has some very talented people in their roster, including AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Cesaro. There?s clearly a lot of quality superstars in the company, and fans cannot wait to play as them in WWE 2K17.
WWE 2K17 will be available on October 11 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Fans who pre-order the game will be able to play as two versions of Goldberg.
