WWE shocked a lot of fans with how their most recent Money in the Bank event ended. Not only did Seth Rollins pin Roman Reigns cleanly, but Dean Ambrose also cashed in his contract and became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the first time in his career. Considering how popular he is with fans, will we be seeing the ?Lunatic Fringe? as the cover star for WWE 2K17?
Even at his corniest, fans seem to love Ambrose, and no one can really be blamed for that. The superstar is very charismatic, has great skills on the microphone and is very good in the ring. He?s the total package and would not be a bad choice to be the cover star for this year?s game.
Of course, 2K Games seems to choose the cover star based on the game?s Showcase Mode. John Cena was the cover star for WWE 2K15 due to his Showcase with CM Punk, while ?Stone Cold? Steve Austin was in the cover for WWE 2K16, since the Showcase was all about Austin?s career.
Unless WWE 2K17 is a retrospective on the Ambrose or The Shield, it?s not clear if he will be anywhere near the cover. He is very popular though and would be a good choice, since he appeals to the mainstream audience and the hardcore WWE fans on the Internet.
It will be interesting to see how Ambrose looks in the game itself, especially with the improved scanning that the developers will be doing. Ambrose already has one of the better character models in WWE 2K16, though the same could not be said for his ?brother? Roman Reigns.
Currently, the only superstars confirmed for the game?s roster so far are John Cena, Ultimate Warrior and Sasha Banks, with Goldberg confirmed as a pre-order character. Fans can definitely expect to see Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns in the game, considering how popular they?ve become and how prominent they are in WWE television.
WWE 2K17 is slated for an October release for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. We will probably know who the cover star is a few months before the game releases.
