World Video Game Hall of Fame 2017 is just around the corner. Gamers, on the other hand, surely want to know which games are going to be this year’s inductees. As we wait for the official list of winners, here are all the key information about the upcoming May event.

First thing every gamer should know is that there are already finalists for this year. There are 12 of them and judges picked them from thousands of nominees from over a hundred countries. According to CBS News, an international committee will decide which of those 12 will be part of the 2017 class. Journalists and video game scholars will be the ones to compose the board.

Now, on that list are the games Donkey Kong, Wii Sports, Final Fantasy VII,  and Mortal Kombat.  Myst, Halo: Combat Evolved, Portal, Pokemon Red and Green, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter II, and Microsoft Windows Solitaire are also under consideration for induction less than two months from now.

“What they all have in common is their undeniable impact on the world of gaming and popular culture,” Jon-Paul Dyson said, director of The Strong’s International Center for the History of Electronic Games. Winners of this year’s World Video Game Hall of Fame will join Doom, and Grand Theft Auto III, Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Invaders, Tetris, World of Warcraft, and Super Mario Bros.

For the past two years, the hall of fame only chose six titles out of all nominees in each respective year.  That would give the idea that the class of 2017 will also have six games from the list of 12. Should that be the case, then let us speculate which six will make it to the final cut.

Based on a personal prediction, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy VII, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, Tomb Raider, and Pokemon Red and Green will be the ones to be inducted this year. These are the titles that were more successful compared to the other titles on the list. Plus, it is indeed undeniable that they do belong to the hall of fame group.
