The first Wonder Woman trailer debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) and our favorite Amazonian heroine, played by Gal Gadot, showed why DC doesn?t need a man to hit box-office success.
DC isn?t particularly successful (yet) in the cinematic adaptations of its well-loved superheroes. The most recent Batman v Superman was highly anticipated but critics and fans were not pleased as it significantly lacked in ?color? and was labelled as ?too dark? and ?too serious.?
But Wonder Woman appears to be more than ready to save his fellow heroes, Batman and Superman, from total box office bomb. It?s the perfect time for the Amazonian princess to showcase her power and charisma against Marvel?s hotshots.
But more importantly, this year also marks the heroine?s 75th anniversary. Actress Gadot even said at the SDCC panel as reported by THR, ?Many times, it felt like we got signs from the universe.?
She continued, ?It felt like we were just a vessel for a greater story that we need to share with everyone. It isn?t about me as an actress or Patty as a director. It felt like, now is the time.?
It is in fact not just about uplifting the DC name in the cinematic landscape but it?s about telling the greater story which is about the fight for freedom and women?s rights. This will be the first time that a woman will be the title character in a superhero film and it?s just fitting that it?s Wonder Woman.
?Wonder Woman has the heart of a human and the strength of a goddess,? Gadot said in a report by Variety. While director Patty Jenkins said something quite similar about Gadot, that she?s the reason for the positive atmosphere on set. ?I could never have imagined that someone so really like Wonder Woman would show up to do this movie,? Jenkins said. ?She is Wonder Woman.?
The director also added that it has been her life?s dream to make a film about the Amazonian heroine as she was her favorite superhero. ?When the moment came, I could not believe this moment has come,? she said. ?I feel so honored to do it. It?s my life dream ? I have always aspired to make something like this.?
It will be no surprise if Gadot?s Wonder Woman will win the world over, it would in fact take a woman to do it.
We will also see the Amazonian princess teaming up with Batman, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, and the yet to be revealed Superman in the Justice League movie.
Wonder Woman hits theatres June 2, 2017 while Justice League premieres November 17, 2017.
