Windows Phone Gets a Managing Files App for a More Organized Handset

By on

Free your smartphone from mess as Microsoft unveils its newest file management app for Windows Phone 8.1 ? the Files.

?We?ve heard your feedback loud and clear that managing files needs to be easier to do on your Windows Phone and Joe Belfiore announced earlier this month during a Reddit AMA that we would address your feedback with an official file manager app. Today, we are releasing the app. It’s called Files and it makes it easy and intuitive to manage your files on your devices running Windows Phone 8.1. You can download it from the Windows Phone Store here,” Brandon LeBlanc, senior marketing communications manager at Microsoft in the official blog post.

?Files? is a free app for managing files on Windows Phone. Through Files, users can do the following:

? Access files stored on your phone and SD card
? Browse, search and launch files
? Easily share one file or multiple files
? Create folders to organize your files
? Copy, move, rename and delete files

Aside from these, Windows Phone users can also share one or many files on their phone with their friends, family or work colleagues.

In the blog post, one fan asked Belfiore if there?s any plans for file managers on WP?? where the Windows Phone Team member replied indeed Microsoft was doing a File Manager for WP8.1!

?I know a LOT of you are looking for this (thanks for the tweets, I’ve read them all). In fact, I’ve been running a build of it on two of my phones for the last week or so and it’s getting to pretty good shape.? Belfiore said.

However, one may notice that Files is not that perfect as it doesn?t integrate well with other apps, like OneDrive or the Office apps.

Download Files for free from the Windows Phone Store.?
