Wii U Software Update Allows Users to Transfer Data to Another Wii U

By on

Nintendo has released a new Wii U software update and it gives Nintendo?s latest generation console the ability to transfer its content from one Wii U to another.

This setup isn?t exactly new as it is similar to the one used by Nintendo for the 3DS. The Wii U to Wii U setup though will have a few requirements in order for it to work properly. First, both Wii U devices must have the latest up to date system software (version 5.1.0) to be able to do the transfer. Once the system to system transfer is complete, the source Wii U will have its storage formatted.

Data that can be transferred between Wii U devices include Nintendo Network IDs, downloaded content to a new system, and of course, save data. The ?System Transfer? option is available and can be seen within the System Settings in case users don?t know where it is specifically. Nintendo?s support website also has an FAQ sheet here as well as step by step instructions here for reference.

Aside from the transferring of data between devices, the released system update for the Wii U also includes other features like changes to the Nintendo eShop as well as improvements to system stability and usability.

The Nintendo eShop is Nintendo?s online store and changes to it now include better navigation with the Wii Remote, the Wii U Pro Controller, or the Classic Controller.

Further improvements have also been made to the overall system stability as well as other minor adjustments for an enhanced user experience.

The update can be made via an Internet connection.

Nintendo, of course, has the usual disclaimer that any unauthorized device or any unauthorized software may make the device unusable.

?IMPORTANT:?After the Wii U system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized technical modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unplayable. Content deriving from the unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system may be removed. Failure to accept the update may render games unplayable.?
