Today Google is celebrating its 18th birthday. However, there is still a confusion about Google?s actual birth date.

As usual, Google is celebrating its special day with a balloon-filled Doodle. Gerben Steenks has designed this year?s GIF to say happy birthday to world?s biggest search engine. The company is now showing its birthday Doodle on web browsers across the world.

Google registered its .com domain on September 15, 1997. The name “Google” is derived from a word ??googol?, a mathematical term to represent a number with ?1? numeral followed by 100 zeros. The number and name reflects Larry Page and Sergey Brin?s vision to to organize a seemingly infinite amount of information on the web. There is no doubt that the founders have actually achieved their target.

The tech giant is celebrating its birthday on September 27, since 2006. However, the company was actually established on September 4, 1998 as mentioned by Google itself. The company filed Google as an incorporation in California on that date. On the same day, its owners Page and Brin opened a bank account in the newly established company’s name.

However, evidences claim that Doodle has already existed even before the company became an incorporation on September 4, 1998. The first Doodle was apparently for the Burning Man Festival, which was launched on August 30, 1988. The tech giant used its first birthday Doodle on September 27, 2002 on its fourth birthday. The company launched first animated Doodle on January 4, 2004 to pay tribute to Sir Isaac Newton on his birthday.

Although there is no exact evidence towards the importance of September 27 in the history of the company, it seems the tech giant has adopted this particular date as its birthday. However, there is no description about this particular day on Google?s history page. In 2003, on its 5th birthday, Google announced its birthday on September 8 followed by September 7th a year after.

Although there is no specific birth date?, Google?has achieved what it was made for. In the past 18 years, the company has grown to be one of the biggest websites in the world.
