Season 5 of the Australian prison drama series Wentworth is still a year away but fans of the show are already speculating as to who might be replacing Danielle Cormack?s character, Bea Smith, as the prison?s top boss.
The Season 4?s finale episode ?Seeing Red? ended with Bea being attacked by Joan ?The Freak? Ferguson (Pamela Rabe), who repeatedly stabs her with a screw driver. Smith is seen losing consciousness due to heavy blood loss, but it left her death open to speculations.
However, the show?s executive producer, Jo Porter, recently confirmed that fan favorite character Bea Smith is indeed gone from the show.
?It is always an incredibly difficult decision to say farewell to a much-loved and revered character like Bea Smith,? she said in a statement. ?This decision was particularly hard as it meant also saying goodbye to Danielle Cormack.?
The confirmation of Bea?s death has lead fans to believe The Freak may now become the prison leader. Joan Ferguson is expected to be the new Bea Smith as other prisoners are probably going to fear her more now that she has murdered Bea.
Ferguson has been the prisoner governor before, so she is definitely good at controlling and leading people. She also has a streak of manipulating others and she will get what she wants. Her time as prison boss will be limited as she is not going to be a popular leader.
It is also being speculated that towards the end of Season 5, now recovered Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson), will finally avenge?Bea?s death and end the reign of The Freak. Allie was last seen miraculously coming back to life suddenly even after the doctors had lost all hope.
Bea Smith could still return?
Bea is the fan favorite character of Wentworth and fans are still struggling to come in terms with her death. There are more and more speculations that the show might do a Jon Snow-ish comeback for the character.
Since Novak came back from death, fans are hopeful that Bea too might recover. There are theories circulating that Smith will be in a coma and recovering from the incident.
Though a recent twitter photo showed Danielle Cormack supporting Blonde hair, Redditors have speculated that she would be in a coma recovering so there won?t be a need for the iconic red hair her character sports in the series.
