The latest SoulCalibur 6 trailer not only confirms the appearances of some familiar faces, it also introduces new and old fans to a brand new fighter in the ring. As the trailer reveals, the newest character to join the SoulCalibur franchise is none other than Grøh. Just who is this new addition and what does he bring to the series?
SoulCalibur 6 Trailer: Who is Grøh?
What may be most interesting about Grøh is the fact that he boasts of dual wielding capabilities. Referred to as “The Agent in Black,” Grøh is able to switch between fighting with just one sword or upping the ante with two. The new trailer shows off Grøh’s move set as he dukes it out against other SoulCalibur fighters. While not much is known about the character, his capabilities imply that players may be able to utilize different fighting styles at once when it comes to Grøh.
The Return of Other SoulCalibur Characters
Besides the introduction of a new face, the trailer also reveals the comeback of some familiar characters in the form of Nightmare, Kilik, and Xianghua. As is the case with Grøh, the trailer also shows the different move sets of the aforementioned characters. Most notably, the footage hints at a new side to Kilik towards the end of the trailer. Kilik is shown to evolve into a more menacing fighter who is seemingly consumed by “bloodlust.” As to how this plays out in the game’s lore — and how exactly this new mode of Kilik’s is unlocked — remains unknown.
Other than Nightmare, Xianghua, Kilik, and the addition of Grøh, other confirmed characters include Mitsurugi and Sophitia. It is expected that more fighters will be revealed in later trailers prior to the game’s release.
What is SoulCalibur?
For the uninitiated, SoulCalibur is a fighting video game franchise from Bandai Namco. As the games are weapon-based, each character fights with their own personal arsenal. The series first launched for the arcade in 1995. Back then, it was referred to as Soul Edge.
SoulCalibur 6, on the other hand, is the latest entry in the franchise. The release of the game — set for 2018 — marks a 6-year gap after the release of its predecessor, SoulCalibur 5. As per reports, SoulCalibur 6 is set to be a soft reboot of the series. This is due to the game revisiting the franchise’s origins. It is set to be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
