As America and the world is trying to make sense of the violence that occurred in a nightclub frequented by gays, new and grueling details come to the surface. CNN reports that the wife of Orlando nightclub shooter told the FBI that Omar Mir Seddique Mateen said that he wanted to carry out a jihadist attack though she denied knowledge of his plans to launch the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
FBI investigators don’t believe that the gunman?s wife, Noor Salman, was a co-conspirator in the attack that killed 50 people Sunday morning at Pulse, the source said. The same CNN article further reports that Salman told the FBI she had noticed changes in her husband’s behavior and tried to dissuade him from doing anything violent, the official said.
Law enforcement officials said that Salman accompanied Mateen on trips to scout potential targets though it is unclear how much she knew about his intentions. She was with him when he visited Pulse and Disney Springs — an entertainment and shopping complex — apparently in early June. He was also able to buy a gun at around the same time.
What is more disturbing is how the gunman reacted to the violence that he just caused. The New York Times reported that ?Mr. Mateen had a chilling history that included talking about killing people, beating his former wife and voicing hatred of minorities, gays and Jews. Most of his victims were gay, Latino or both.
His father, Seddique Mir Mateen, an Afghan immigrant, has said that he was particularly enraged by seeing same-sex couples kiss. Police Chief Mina even said that in the same report while the negotiations was going on, the gunman was ?calm? and he was aware of the loss of life that he would cause.
CNN writes that the authorities are now considering on whether or not Mateen?s wife will be charged. For ?more updates and developments on this breaking story, stay connected to this site.
