Warcraft, Film Adaptation Of The Popular Game Franchise To Be Released in 2016: Producer Drops Hints About The Movie’s Plot

World of Warcraft

The popular multiplayer game franchise World of Warcraft created by Blizzard Entertainment will be seen by people in an entirely different perspective ? this time via a film adaptation simply called ?Warcraft.? The movie will be directed by Duncan Jones and its screenplay is also written by Jones along with Charles Leavitt. Duncan Jones was the director of 2011?s Jake Gyllenhaal-starrer Source Code.

One of the movie?s producers Thomas Tull, in an interview at the London stop of the Godzilla promotion tour (which he is also producing), said that making movie adaptations of popular video games had not been well-received by viewers in the past.? He noted that if the makers of those films had only asked themselves questions like ?How much money can we make out of this?? and ?How many people have actually played the game?? they are destined to fail right from the beginning. Tull believed that Jones will be able to cast an interesting light on this movie.

Warcraft is poised to be released on March 2016, roughly two years from now. The director recently announced via Twitter that they have already wrapped up the shooting of all scenes. It seems that the time left before the release date will be spent mainly to finish all computer-generated images (CGI), aside from marketing and publicity efforts. Industrial Light and Magic, the CGI studio behind the Star Wars franchise, will be taking care of all the CGI scenes in Warcraft. The film is set to star relatively unknown actors like Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Travis Fimmel (Vikings).

Tull also shared a little, but very welcome, information about the film?s plot. He mentioned that there are two well-known tribes in the World of Warcraft universe and that two big things will happen. He is apparently referring to the story behind the first version of the game wherein a human tribe and an orc tribe waged war against each other. ?In the game?s storyline, the war inevitably happened despite the good intentions of both tribes? leaders.
