W Two Worlds has been among this season?s most successful Korean dramas. A rep from MBC has spoken up about their runaway hit starring Han Hyo Joo and Lee Jong Suk.

The plot is centered on lead character Oh Yeon Joo [Han Hyo Joo], a problematic female surgeon in her mid-30s. She teleports between reality and a webtoon dimension called ?W,? which was created by her cartoonist father. This is where she falls in love with an Olympic gold medalist and media mogul named Kang Chul [Lee Jong-Suk].

The story of W Korean drama was created by screenwriter Song Jae Jung. MBC drama department head Park Sung Soo admitted it is unusual to choose a drama based solely on a script. However, network execs were convinced because of its unique plot, which was brought to life by director Jung Dae Yoon. ??

?We?ve always kept an eye on Song Jae Jung?s projects,? Park Sung Soo said. ?When we saw the first script for ?W,? we thought, ?This is it.??

?It has themes that the current generation will enjoy and the fact that the script is finished will please audiences,? he added.

Show reps also said that the unusual cartoon setting of W Two Worlds somewhat made things awkward for its actors. Because of this, the show?s producing director really focused on bringing out the characters? emotions.

?All filming must be undertaken with the intent to maximize emotion,? he told Soompi. ?We have to work hard to make sure the audience never loses the characters? feelings.?

Even Lee Jong Suk himself has admitted that the fantasy drama is one of his most challenging projects to date. However, the 26-year-old actor said that it helps to have a professional like Han Hyo Joo as his leading lady. ?
