The PlayStation exclusive title Uncharted is finally going to have its big-screen debut on June 10 2016. It was recently announced by Sony Pictures according to a report from Hollywood Reporter.
This has something to do with the huge delay on The Amazing Spider Man 3, which was pushed back to 2018. It was previously scheduled to be released at the same schedule that the Uncharted movie was announced for. However, another Spider-Man themed movie will launch later in 2016, called the Sinister Six (which will obviously show six ?Spider-Man villains)
Seth Gordon, the director in charge of the Uncharted movie, said that filming the movie will start in the early months of next year. The lead actor was supposed to be Mark Wahlberg, but that changed when the supposed original director, David O Russell,?decided to leave the film project. Same case with another director named Neil Burger. Right now, they haven?t found a leading actor who will portray Nathan Drake in the movie.
Last week, Gordon mentioned that he greatly admires the game?s sophisticated storytelling (this is to be expected with exclusive games from Sony like The Last Of Us, Heavy Rain, etc), but he does not intend to merely retell the story of the game. He knows too well that fans wouldn?t just want to see the same story told again. ?You want extra shades?, Gordon said.
Of course, there?s Uncharted 4: A Thief?s End to add to the Uncharted hype. It is currently being developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation 4. It has already been officially announced, but there?s no definite release date as of the moment. Sony also never mentioned anything about the game, having any tie-ins with the upcoming movie in 2016. However, judging from Gordon?s earlier statement, it might be a safe bet to think that the movie wouldn?t have that much ?to do with?the PlayStation 4 exclusive, except for featuring Nathan Drake and his adventures.
