UFC 205: Tyron Woodley Doesn’t Respect Stephen Wonderboy Thompson

By on

Tyron Woodley is set to defend his UFC welterweight belt on UFC 205 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. The man across the cage will be the unorthodox karateka and widely regarded as one of the best strikers in MMA, Stephen ?Wonderboy? Thompson.

The newly-minted UFC welterweight champion?has always been lobbying for some respect but then he does not get it so often. He had been dealing with racist backlash even in his short title reign. This was after he dispatched of then champion Robbie Lawler in their UFC 201 clash. He dealt with being called a n***er and monkey according to this piece on MMA Fighting. He has been taunted by fans saying that he is scared of this person or that.

Woodley (16-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC), will enter the cage on UFC 205. He will still remain as the underdog against?Wonderboy (13-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC). The odds-makers do not even give him the respect that he demands.?Stephen Thompson opened as a -150 favorite over Tyron Woodley at +120.

Respect is something Woodley wants and something he is adamant to get against Thompson.

Tyron Woodley: ?I really don?t respect him as a man.?

Woodley revealed that he respects Wonderboy as an opponent though?he does not respect him as a man. He cites that he and Wonderboy have been locked in and committed to the fight more than a month ago but Wonderboy keeps on saying that he is scared to fight him on social media. This was said on the Anik and Florian podcast.

He added that he can?t respect someone for actively seeking the affirmation of fans. He tags this as something desperate as Wonderboy has been on a PR campaign on his own. Stephen Thompson had gotten under his skin and that Thompson has this ?fake humble.? He adds that he will funnel this into a great strategy and take Thompson out quickly.

This though is shaping up to be a fight with bad blood and with an underdog of a champion brewing up a plan full of ill intentions. The UFC 205?then could be the blockbuster event that one can hope for.
