Here?s the UFC 202 preliminary card results. In the main feature of the UFC 202 prelim card on Fox Sports 1, we saw Cody Garbrandt deciminate Takeya Mizugi faster than how UFC Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz did. The contest was waved off at the 0:48 mark of the first round. Garbrandt hurt Mizugaki early and backed him to throw a probing left hand and set up a beautiful right to drop the veteran. Garbrandt followed up with devastating punches before the referee steps in to save Mizugaki from unnecessary damage.

Does this set up a championship fight with Cruz? It does raise Garbrandt?s stock a bit but he fought someone ranked lower than him. Garbrandt is ranked at 8 bantamweight and Mizugaki is ranked lower at 11. This performance solidifies Garbrandt as an up and coming contender but there are people ranked higher than him who Cruz had not fought yet. It would be an interesting fight and it would generate high interest and sales considering the rivalry between Cruz and Team Alpha Male, Garbrandt?s team. Is it fair? Maybe not for the fighters but it looks like a great deal for the fans.
Another big fight that Garbrandt could be involved in for the money and to make a better case for a title shot is a showdown with former teammate TJ Dillashaw. This also makes sense and the UFC marketing machine will have a field day with this too.
Also, the prelims featured a bout between Conor Mcgregor?s teammate, Artem Lobov, and Nate Diaz?s teammate, Chris Avila. The bout was exciting as you would expect. Also, their styles too seem to have some shades of those of their main event teammates. Lobov took the bout via a unanimous decision with his taking advantage of the susceptibility of Avila?s stance to leg kicks playing as a significant factor.
