Will football fans be seeing a new emerging football power holding the trophy at the end of the ongoing UEFA EURO 2016 being held in France? This because Spain?s 1-2 loss to Croatia means that five football world powers are stacked up on one side of the Euro 16 bracket.
Aside from Spain, also settling in the same side of the bracket are Italy, France, Germany and England. These teams have a total of nine Euro trophies among them not to mention a combined 11 FIFA World Cup titles.
Joining Croatia in the other half of the Euro 16 bracket are Wales, Poland and Switzerland. Although the Euro 16 bracket will only be completed on Wednesday, June 23, it is sufficient to say that none of the national teams who will end up on the other side have won a major international title. Because a football game is always unpredictable, it may not be farfetched to think that we might be seeing a new football power lifting the UEFA Euro 2016 trophy.
To say that Croatia?s Ivan Perisic?s late goal stunned the La Rojas is an understatement because Spain is seen in this tournament to be back in their old form which saw them winning the UEFA Euro 2008 and on to the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
Not only has Croatia cost them the top spot in Group D, Spain will also now have to see action in an early rematch against Italy, the team they beat for their 2012 UEFA Euro title, as they will face the Italians at the start of the tournament?s knockout stage.
