HBO original “True Detective” sure garnered a following of sorts in its first season with Matthew McConaughey playing the lead character Rustin “Rust” Cohle. The second season was reprised sans McConaughey, but a strong cast including Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams as well as Vince Vaughn.
As noted by Vanity Fair, the second season of the show failed to attract the viewership that its predecessor had managed. This naturally led to the question whether the show will be renewed for season 3. Reportedly, the current president of programming at HBO, Casey Bloys, may be looking in the direction to produce a new show from the “True Detective” showrunner Nic Pizzolatto as opposed to renewing this crime drama.
Ardent fans are still holding on to the ray of hope that the show may be given another shot with it returning for the next season. McConaughey in an interview with Rich Eisen shared how much he missed playing the astute detective on the show. He said, “I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights. I was a happy man when I made that for six months, because I was on my own island.”?Could it be possible that the man in question is hinting at returning back to the series? Fans will love nothing more than to see Detective Cohle back on the crime scene in “True Detective” season 3.
The rumors of “True Detective” returning also stem from a recent post by actress Olivia Munn on her official Instagram. The photo had Munn alongside T.J. Miller, Jillian del Toro and Jason Bateman with the caption “True Detective Season 3 #officemasparty.” It is noteworthy that no official announcement has been made about season 3. However, as pictures speak a thousand words, Munn sharing the photograph has led many to believe that the next season may indeed happen.
