?True Detective? Season 3 Happening: What We Know So Far

By on

A recent statement from HBO indicates that True Detective Season 3 is happening after all. The detective drama had a critically-acclaimed first season earning them numerous awards nominations. However, Season 2 was criticized to be lacklustre in almost all aspects especially when it came to the plot and characters.

All hopes for a Season 3 were gone after the disappointing Season 2 but a recent statement from HBO?s new programming chief, Casey Bloys at HBO?s Television Critics Association press day, rekindled the hope for a new season.

According to Vulture, Bloys said, that True Detective ?Season 3 is ?not dead, but there?s no take on a third season yet.? He also added that he is open to having someone else write the third installment with creator Nic Pizzolatto.

The series premiered in 2014 with much praise from both fans and critics but the second season emerged as 2015?s ?most passionately disliked show.? Michael Lombardo, former HBO programming chief, said that he was to blame and not Pizzolatto for rushing the production process for Season 2. Now that everyone wants a comeback from the detective series, here?s what we know so far following the possibility of a third season.

Matthew McConaughey wants in

McConaughey previously told Rich Eisen in an interview that he is more than willing to reprise his role as the pessimist insomniac but highly effective detective, Rustin Cohle, from the series? first run. ??I miss Rust Cohle, man,? he said. ?I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights? I was a happy man when we made that for six months, because I was on my own island.? The role earned McConaughey various awards and nominations for his performance.

He?s been talking with Nic Pizzolatto

The actor also shared that he has been talking with the creator of the show for the possibility of a third season. ?It would have to be the right context, the right way,? he said. ?That thing?when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes if I can play this guy, Rustin Cohle, I?m in.?

There?s a True Detective-ish show on HBO right now

Since the premiere of the new HBO crime drama The Night Of last month, many have been speculating that it was secretly True Detective?s third season. The new show could be promoting the detective drama so HBO can gain their audience?s trust back with the genre.

Despite the intensely harsh criticism faced by the second season, surely fans will openly welcome and support a third season.
