After the successful $1.4 billion box office gross of Transformers: Age of Extinction, a sequel to the film is set with Akiva Goldsman called to write a script for Michael Bay to direct. Michael Bay, however, may not direct Transformers 5 and pass the baton to someone else.
Transformers 5 Update
According to Deadline, the screenplay writer for A Beautiful Mind and I Am Legend, Goldsman, will be writing the script for Transformers 5. The production of Transformers 5 will reportedly start next June, Deadline reported.
Michael Bay Not Directing?
Transformers 5 is said to be Bay?s last Transformers movie, Deadline reported. However, this might not be the case and Bay may just oversee the production of the film. According to Christianpost, Bay has not yet committed for the Transformers sequel. The plot and ideas for the Transformers 5 also isn?t final yet, Bay said on Twitter:??Directing T5. No, it?s not official. I have not committed to any idea as of yet. Just met with Steven and we are discussing.?
According to IGN, T5 may feature two separate storylines. The first part is said to revolve with T4 star Cade Yeager teaming with the Autobots and Dinobots to save Earth. The second arc revolves on the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, IGN reported. Optimus Prime might fight a transforming planet named Unicron in the second arc of the movie, the report said.
According to Air Herald, star of Transformers 4 star Mark Wahlberg said he doesn?t plan to reprise his role as Cade Yeager for the inevitable T5. ?I will pass the baton for future ?Transformers? movies while I can focus somewhere else, Wahlberg said. ?There?s a lot that?s unexplored, but that?s for the next director to figure out.?
Megan Fox disappeared from the Transformers movie after T2 and she may reprise her role as Mikaela Barnes in the latest flick. According to Cinemablend, rumors are at large that Megan Fox will return because T5 needs a familiar face to help sell the movie to fans of the franchise.
Transformers 5 is penciled to release in theaters this June 2017.
