We all thought the adventures of Woody and Buzz on the big screen ended in 2010 with Toy Story 3, the tear-jerking conclusion to the beloved animated film by Pixar.
News about a fourth installment was confirmed last year when Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger announced that John Lasseter will direct the film during an earnings call.
?We love these characters so much; they are like family to us,? said Lasseter in a statement according to The Hollywood Reporter. ?We don?t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what?s gone before.?Toy Story 3?ended Woody and Buzz?s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another?Toy Story?movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie?and I wanted to direct it myself.?
Currently the chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, Lasseter directed the first?and second Toy Story movies. He also helmed?A Bug’s Life, and is a two-time Academy Award winner.
Aside from Lasseter, the team consists of other?Toy Story?veterans Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich.? On the writing team are?Rashida Jones?and? Will McCormack?while Galyn Susman?is producing.
No cast members have been announced yet but Disney?s announcement did say the film will “open a new chapter in the lives of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the ?Toy Story? gang.” The Wrap reports that the new film will be a love story about Woody and Bo Peep.
That means Tim Allen and Tom Hanks will reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz while The Wrap reports that recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette will be joining the voice cast as a hippie mother.
Toy Story 4 is set for release on June 16, 2017.
