Despite the lack of hype, Toukiden 2 is an RPG to look out for when it?s released later this year. While it is very similar to the Monster Hunter series in terms of gameplay mechanics, the setting makes it unique. Fans that enjoyed the first game will likely enjoy the sequel as well, though there are things that need mentioning.
Delayed To Spring 2017
Originally scheduled for an early release this year, PlayStation Lifestyle has confirmed that it will now come out in Spring. No reason was given for the delay, and there isn?t an official release date either. Still, a release window is better than nothing, and fans can at least mark it in their calendar.
Toukiden 2 is already available in Japan on PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. Usually, the Western release of Japanese games ignore the less powerful ports ala Digimon World: Next Order. However, the game?s press release has TBD in the platforms, so it could still get a PS3 and Vita release.
There Is An Anime Short
Koei Tecmo released an anime short created by Studio4C to hype up the eventual release of the game. Clocking in at only 4 minutes and 50 seconds, it?s still a worthwhile short for those playing it. At the least, it will give non-fans a solid idea on how the game?s world works, which is a nice touch.
Direct Sequel, New Gamer Friendly
Despite being a direct sequel to the original game, Toukiden 2 might be friendly to newer gamers. Set sometime in the first game, players will create a new character from scratch, where they defend various eras of Japan. Like Monster Hunter and God Eater before it, players fight giant monsters in single-player and multiplayer modes.
Though it might not reach the heights of Capcom?s giant cashcow, fans of those games should check this out. Fans did enjoy the first game, at least enough to warrant a sequel on multiple Sony platforms. If anyone hasn?t checked out the first game, the sequel seems like a fine jumping-on point, since players make a new character from scratch.
Toukiden 2 will come out in Spring on PS4, with a PS3 and PS Vita version possibly on the horizon.
