The Good Dinosaur Trailer Shows Plot, Characters & Spoilers: Family Theme And Finding Nemo References Revealed For Disney’s Next Feel Good Film

Disney Pixar?s latest animated movie promises to be nothing short of heartwarming and full of surprises.

?The Good Dinosaur?, out on Wednesday, imagines a world where the large reptiles that roamed the planet weren?t wiped out by an asteroid and tells the story of an Apatosaurus named Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) who gets separated from his family when a great storm strikes. The young dinosaur finds an unlikely ally in Spot (Jack Bright), a human boy who only speaks in grunts and growls but is every bit loyal, fearless and helpful in finding Arlo?s way home.

Good Dinosaur?director?Peter Sohn was a former story artist on Pixar’s “Finding Nemo”, “The Incredibles”, “Ratatouille” and “WALL-E” and drew inspiration from frontier movies like the 1972 film ?Jeremiah Johnson? that starred Robert Redford as well as his trips to Wyoming, Idaho and Oregon that played a huge influence on the movie?s setting.

?This stands a chance of really hitting home for a lot of people. It is family fare, and being a father, it spoke to me,? said?Sam Elliott, who voices the T. rex dad Butch, in an interview with USA Today.

Butch, along with his kids Nash (AJ?Buckley) and Ramsey (Anna Paquin) are, surprisingly, the good guys in the story. ?In this movie, we?re just this cool little family that barbecues at night and reins in the cattle in the morning,? Buckley said.

“They’re using their massive size and power for slightly gruff and robust but loving and kind purposes. They’re using their power for good, and that obviously is not something we see in real life a hell of a lot,” Paquin told IGN. “That’s not usually the way T-Rexes have been portrayed in film. Usually the T-Rex is some big lone animal that just comes in and eats everything. They’re a family, and obviously the themes of this film are about family and what that means and who you are in relation to and what your trials and tribulations mean as far as making you the person you are so you can make your mark, so you earn your place.”

These T. rexes are much like Bruce, the friendly shark we know from ?Finding Nemo? ? a seemingly threatening animal who unexpectedly turns out to be friendly.

Paquin was thrilled to finally be able to be part of a Disney Pixar film and play a female character who “gets to be tough and strong and hold her own with the guys”.

“A lot about this little posse of T-Rexes is just really cool and, like most Pixar things, going to take people by surprise,” she said.
