Tetris, Minecraft Movie Updates: Release Date, Plot, What We Know So Far

By on

Wait, Tetris and Minecraft are going to the big screen? Apparently, Yes. We could not believe it either but here?s your Tetris and Minecraft movie updates.

In a 2014 blog entry on the Wall Street Journal, it was written that a Tetris movie was in the works. Threshold Entertainment partnered with the Tetris Company to develop an on-screen live-action film based on the popular game. Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff said that the movie will be a ?very big, epic sci-fi movie.? He also revealed that there was a story in place already.

Threshold Entertainment is known for works such as Lego Star Wars in Cartoon Network and the Mortal Kombat adaptations in 1995 and in 1997.

Game to cinema crossovers are the rage nowadays but this Tetris affair is somewhat stepping over the line. But, it?s that little ?line-stepping? that gets us all interested and apparently, Tetris will make not just one movie but a trilogy–something people have a hard time wrapping their heads around.

In an interview with Empire, Kasanoff revealed that the story is too big that it could not be told in one single film. He believe that a sci-fi trilogy will give the epic Tetris story justice. There is no reliable source yet that could report about the plot of the movie but Kasanoff guarantees that it is not what most people think–blocks with limbs running around.

Casting is underway and will partly be shot in China. It looks like it is poised to adapt a global feel.

A Minecraft movie is not too far off as much as Tetris. Also, details about the movie is not too obscure as well. According to Hothardware, the movie will be out in 2019. Mojang, just two days ago, stated that there is an exact date for the release which is May 24, 2019. Mojang also revealed that it will be released both in 3D & IMAX.

Much like Tetris, there is no plot yet revealed. Mojang promised though that as time goes by, they will share loads more about the movie.

Minecraft is considered to be the best selling PC game of all time with 100 million copies sold. Also, it is the second best selling video game across all platforms. Second only to what? Yes, Tetris.

Will this success in the gaming world be translated well to the silver screen? Would these moves affect their brands positively or negatively? I guess we will know when we get to see the movies.

For now, all we can do is wait. Stay tuned for more Tetris and Minecraft movies updates.
