Fighting game fans eagerly awaiting Tekken X Street Fighter are going to have to do a lot more waiting. In an interview published in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Tekken 7 senior game designer Michael Murray said that the highly anticipated mash-up fighter is still happening; but currently has no timetable for release.
?It?s still in development, but as far as a release window we haven?t really decided on that,? said Murray.
Tekken x Street Fighter Release A Mystery
When the partnership between Capcom and Namco Bandai was announced way back in 2010, gamers were promised two titles; but only one has seen the light of day so far. Street Fighter x Tekken, which was developed in the 2D side-scrolling style of Street Fighter, was released by Capcom on last-gen consoles in 2012. Its twin sibling, Tekken X Street Fighter, is being made by Namco in Tekken?s signature 3D perspective.
Murray?s comments indicate that the game is still in development, but may not be Namco?s top priority at the moment. The developer is currently gearing up for the console release of Tekken 7, which is set to come to the PlayStation 4 at an unspecified date. The game was released in Japanese Arcades in February 2015 while an updated version called Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, is on-track for a July 2016 launch.
This isn?t the first time that a developer from Namco has tried to assure fans about Tekken x Street Fighter. Last year, producer Katsuhiro Harada made similar statements to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu.
?It might seem like we haven’t started on it at all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago,” Said Harada. “And we’ve already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems.” He said.
