Tekken 7 director Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed on his official Twitter account about the compatible Arcade sticks for Tekken 7. The PlayStation 4 version supports all arcade sticks available on the PlayStation 3. Meanwhile, the Xbox One version isn’t compatible with Xbox 360 sticks. Experienced fighting game players often use these specific controllers to have general proficiency regardless of platform.

Harada On Arcade Sticks

According to Harada’s tweet as translated by Wonkey, official PlayStation 3 arcade sticks will still work on Tekken 7 on the PS4. However, Harada also suggests avoiding PS1 and PS2 arcade stick converters for Tekken 7. Harada also confirmed that Xbox 360 arcade sticks aren’t compatible on the Xbox One version. Lastly, information about the PC version’s arcade stick compatibility will be announced at a later date.

Arcade Stick Choices

Two official Tekken 7-themed PS4 and Xbox One arcade sticks are set to be released along with the game this June 2. Both arcade sticks are also compatible with the PC version. The arcade sticks have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price(MSRP) of $179.99 which could be expensive to some players.

PlayStation 4 players are in luck as some old PlayStation 3 arcade sticks are confirmed to work on the PS4 version. However, you’ll have to find old ones from known arcade stick manufacturers than custom ones to make sure they work right. These older sticks tend to be cheaper when bought second hand due to their compatibility issues with the current generation’s fighting game releases.

Arcade Stick Culture

Overall, playing on an arcade stick is optional but has significantly become a standard for aspiring and experienced fighting game players. Arcade stick knowledge applies for all the console, PC, and arcade cabinet versions as long as the stick unit is available. The arcade stick setup provides a chance for players to have an overall proficiency on the game regardless of the platform.

Tekken 7’s non-arcade platforms are the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The DualShock 4, Xbox One controller, and the keyboard have different control layouts which forces players to adjust should they switch platforms without arcade stick knowledge. However, players should keep in mind that arcade sticks are only a necessity to get better at a fighting game. Fighting game knowledge, correct move execution, and other skills can only be learned through repeated gameplay and practice. Stay updated with more Tekken 7 news here on The BitBag.
