A footage of Taylor Swift and Kanye West?s phone call was released by Kim Kardashian-West via Snapchat on Sunday night. The call between the pop singer and rapper was all about West?s song, ?Famous,? in which the latter was allegedly seeking Swift?s approval.
However, a rep of the pop singer said that the call wasn?t about seeking her approval of the song. It was only about asking her if she could release the song, ?Famous,? on her Twitter account.
According to a report by PEOPLE, the pop star?s rep revealed, ?Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ?I made that bitch famous.?? And added that, ?Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ?Famous? on her Twitter account.?
It appears that West is the one lying here. Multiple sources say that the ?Blank Space? singer had no idea that the phone call was being recorded. Gregory G. Brown of a family and trial law firm, Brown & Charbonneau, LLP told PEOPLE that according to the ?two-party consent? law, the rapper could possibly face $2,500 per violation and jail time of up to one year if the pop star expected the phone call to be private.
After Kardashian-West posted the ?secretly? recorded phone call, Swift posted a response on her Instagram account to defend herself.
She said, ?Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ?that bitch? in his song? It doesn?t exist because it never happened. You don?t get to control someone?s emotional response to being called ?that bitch? in front of the entire world.?
The singer continued to fill in all the blank spaces, ?He promised to play the song for me, but he never did. While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ?approve? a song you haven?t heard. Being falsely painted as a liar when I was never given the full story or played any part of the song is character assassination.?
The response was posted as a photo with a caption, ?That moment when Kanye West secretly records your phone call, then Kim posts it on the Internet.?
In a report by US Weekly, the rapper and his wife ?fully expect? the pop singer to sue them and the Keeping Up With the Kardashian star is said to be fully prepared. An insider told the publication, ?Kim and Kanye consulted with their lawyers and still went ahead with releasing it.?
The insider continued, ?They are not worried. They are sick of Taylor?s manipulations and her good girl act. They just wanted to expose her as a fake and will let the lawyers deal with legal stuff.?
Taylor Swift has yet to file a lawsuit against Kimye but if the celebrity couple is proven to have violated the ?two-party consent? then they will potentially face felony charges with fines and possible jail time.
