Kendrick Lamar has a new album out, Untitled Unmastered, and it?s all thanks to Lebron James.
It appears that Lebron has managed to coax a new album out of the rapper through a tweet, Engadget writes. The NBA star tweeted label head of TDE, Anthony Tiffith, after seeing the rapper?s performance at the Grammys this year, and asked for the release of his unreleased tracks.
The tweet said, ?Yo @dangerookipawaa after that @kendricklamar Grammy performance, you have to release those untitled tracks asap!!! What’s up? Talk to me.?
And voila! A few weeks later, the eight-track album immediately came out on iTunes, Tidal, Spotify and Google Play. Tiffith responded to Lebron?s tweet by posting a photo on Instagram thanking the NBA star, ?Yea muthafuckas KING KENDRICK returns 2nite.. Thank @kingjames for this…. #TDE.?
The rapper, however, calls the newly released tracks a ?project? rather than an album, as The Verge notes. It contains a set of track originally recorded in 2013 and 2014 prior to the release of his last album, To Pimp A Butterfly. Spotify leaked some details about the record which includes its ambiguous name and track list with the word untitled tied to different dates and nothing more.
Untitled Unmastered appears to be more of a minor release rather than a major follow-up to last year?s To Pimp A Butterfly, which earned Lamar five Grammy awards this year. He also put on an epic show that same night with his performance of The Blacker the Berry and Alright, cementing further his much-acclaimed album as one of modern hip-hop?s most important records.
It must have been an absolutely legendary performance that even Lebron, the ?King? himself, went all-out fan mode on the rapper?s Grammy?s night piece.
