Deck13’s second Souls-like title, The Surge, has just released its demo for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Interested players can try out this technological twist on the genre and see if it’s worth the price. According to its Steam post, The Surge demo will feature “hours of gameplay” that can be carried over to the main game. Players can carry over their demo progress to the main game. At best, players can use the demo to try out if they’ll like The Surge or use it to exhaust the content before they buy the main game.
In The Surge, the players will play as Warren and explore the large CREO facility. However, the facility has been overrun by crazy people in exosuits who will attack you on sight. The players will have to press on inside the facility to know the truth behind CREO’s current situation.
Similar to other Soul-slike games, positioning and calculating your blows will be central in winning fights in The Surge. Deck13 includes a unique loot system that allows you to get specific equipment parts off enemies through glory kill executions. The Surge also has a variety of weapons, which most look like large, weaponized, industrial power tools, to deal with foes as they venture deeper into the facility.
Meanwhile, most critics liked The Surge. However, critics such as Eurogamer and Rock, Paper, Shotgun felt the title is too forgettable and banal. The Surge currently holds a 73 overall rating on OpenCritic.
Previously, Deck13 also made a Souls-like game called Lords of the Fallen, which played out like a Vikings Dark Souls. Even though it’s not a phenomenal title, it’s demo might be good enough to enjoy its existence or even convince you to buy a copy for it. Stay updated with more The Surge news here on The BitBag.
