Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been in the rumor mill for quite a while now. Although the company has remained tight lipped about the devices, there are many speculations around the release date and specs of Surface Pro.

Expected release date

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 can?t be expected before 2017 as Microsoft is waiting for the release of the Intel ?Kaby Lake? processor. The new generation processor is important to address the battery life issues that is the main drawback previous Surface Pro devices. Reports claim that Intel will release the next generation processor towards the end of 2016. If the rumors about the release date of the Surface Pro 5 are true, the company will launch the new laptop/tablet hybrid in Spring 2017.

?Instinctively, it makes more sense to wait a year since the last model, rather than rush a summer launch. Given that the Intel processors are just barely becoming available, it also makes sense that Microsoft would need some time to polish a product that includes the new chips. It?s certainly better for Microsoft to get the product right than to hit an arbitrary time frame,? Jan Dawson, the chief analyst at Jackdaw Research, said.

Surface Pro 5 Specs

The Kaby Lake processor is supposed to be paired with 32GB RAM as 16GB option is already there in Surface Pro 4. The devices is supposed to feature a 4K display with new graphics architecture to improve performance in 3D graphics and 4K video playback. It is also rumored to include a rechargeable Surface Pen that will recharge wirelessly when magnetically attached to the tablet.

The new Surface Pro will most probably include USB Type-C as all the other laptop and tablet manufacturers have already introduced the feature in their latest devices. Unfortunately, there is no solid report about the involvement of Thunderbolt 3 ports in Surface Pro 5. However, it is highly likely that the new device will be equipped with Thunderbolt. Its rivals like Dell Latitude 12 7000, ?Acer Aspire Switch 12S and HP Spectre already include this feature.
