Microsoft fans are waiting for a new Surface Pro 5 for quite a long time. However, reports claim that the new laptop/tablet hybrid is not coming soon and instead, the tech giant may just refresh the current Surface Pro 4 this year.
Microsoft is expected to hold a special event in October. There are reports that the company could reveal its plans for the next iteration of the Surface Pro lineup. However, the release of the device may not happen until 2017. Microsoft could provide its fans with a new and improved version of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book instead to keep the sales up.
There are no solid reports from Microsoft itself. However, some are saying that the tech company will be improving and upgrading the processors of both the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. In this case, Microsoft could replace the current sixth generation processor with low-power Kaby Lake processors that are now available. Moreover, Surface Book could receive the Nvidia GPUs.
Several sources have cited that the reason behind the delay of the Surface Pro 5 launch is due to the Kaby Lake processors. Intel has apparently already dispatched the seventh generation processors. However, the most powerful processors are yet to be released. According to reports, Intel has released low power Y and U series Kaby Lake processors. The more powerful quad-core high quality processors will not be released before 2017, reported Tech.FirstSpot.

Meanwhile, Microsoft and the new processor may bring some notable changes to the Surface Pro 5. Apart from the Kaby Lake processor, the device may have an improved RAM. Currently, Microsoft is offering a maximum of 16GB RAM in the Surface Pro 4. Surface Pro 5 is expected to have a massive RAM of up to 32GB. The device will offer up to 1TB SSD internal storage.
The new processor is expected to have 4K support. Thus, Surface Pro fans can expect an improved display in Surface Pro 5. The device may have UHD display with a resolution of 3,840?2,160 pixels.
Another notable change that is expected in the new Surface Pro is improved Surface Pen. The current Pen needs AAAA size non-rechargeable batteries. The new Surface will use rechargeable battery that will recharge wirelessly when Surface Pen will be attached with the device. Similar to current one the new Surface Pen will attach magnetically.
Furthermore, the device may include USB Type-C and ThunderBolt 3 ports. With the new processor Surface Pro 5 will be slimmer than current Surface Pro 4. It is expected to improve the battery life of the device as well.
