Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Surface Phone. Although the tech giant has remained tight lipped about its new flagship smartphone, there are a lot of rumors about the Surface Phone release date and specs. We have compiled the rumors to give readers an overview of Microsoft?s upcoming smartphone.
Recently reports about a new kind of fingerprint reader have surfaced on the internet. Rumor has it that the new device will be equipped with a fingerprint reader on its screen. Unlike other devices, Surface Phone will use its OLED touch screen as fingerprint reader to unlock the device.
According to a patent filed by Microsoft, a sensor under the display glass will read the friction ridges of a finger to identify its user.
Moreover, the device is expected to feature a superior processing unit and cameras. The device is expected to run on Snapdragon 831 or Intel Kaby Lake processor. Reports claim that Microsoft will launch three variants of the Surface Phone. It will be a low cost device for those who are looking for a less expensive device. A budget friendly variant will have 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage.
The next one is a device for Microsoft fans. This mid-range Surface Phone will have 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The high-end device is expected to include massive 8GB RAM and up to 512GB onboard storage. It could feature superior main and front facing cameras with the Carl Zeiss lens.
Surface Phone Release Date
Although there are rumors that Microsoft could release the Surface Phone in October, the company will not release the device before 2017.
Back in March, Microsoft?s Executive Vice President of the Windows and Devices Group, Terry Myerson confirmed that smartphones are not the company?s priority this year.
?We?re fully committed to that 4-inch screen, there will be a time for it to be our focus, but right now it?s part of the family but it?s not the core of where I hope to generate developer interest over the next year,? said Myerson.
The price of the device will depend on the actual hardware of the device. However, as far as rumors are concerned, Microsoft could launch Surface Phone with a price tag starting at $400 to $700 for the high-end variant.
