Prior to its release later this week, the DC Comics? Suicide Squad movie has already received several reviews from critics and it seems that they are not really happy about the film saying it is a ?total mess? from start to finish.
Eversince the first trailer of the movie hit the internet, fans across the globe have been anticipating its release creating so much hype about it. However, recent reviews are generally negative, and it has gone from bad to worst.
Here are some of the comments from the critics:
?From the first scene to the last, it?s an absolute mess, one whose harried pacing, jumbled narrative, and blaring soundtrack of radio hits suggest a desperate post-production attempt to reconfigure what [David] Ayer got on set into something palatable and poppy,? said Matt Singer of ScreenCrush.
?It has a sense of humor and fun, bolstered by a bombastic and multi-textured soundtrack, but its action is also repetitive and disengaging (hurt by the villain?s plot lacking clarity and specificity,? added Eric Eisenberg of Cinemablend.
Hollywood Reported also had the same thought about the movie saying, ?Unfortunately, the result resembles a sports dream team whose combined efforts don?t nearly measure up to the talents of its individual players.?
But, the most harsh comment came from Vanity Fair. ?Suicide Squad is bad. Not fun bad. Not redeemable bad. Not the kind of bad that is the unfortunate result of artists honorably striving for something ambitious and falling short. Suicide Squad is just bad,? said the outlet.
On the other hand, amidst these negative reviews from the critics, it seems like one artist stood out among all the villains, and it is no other than Margot Robbie and her portrayal of Harley Quinn.
?Robbie is radioactively watchable, swinging her baseball bat this way and that, selling this skeezy male-fantasy nutjob with wide-eyed enthusiasm,? Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune said.
Time?s Stephanie Zacharek also mentioned that ?Harley Quinn?s entrance is the best moment? in the movie. She also noted that after that particular scene, viewers can leave already. ?Robbie is a criminally appealing actress, likable in just about every way, but that intro aside, Suicide Squad doesn?t serve her well,? she added.
?Margot Robbie?s Harley Quinn is the one that movie-goers will be talking about most coming out of the film, the Australian star breathing special life into the manic/weird/cute psychopath,? said Cinemablend?s Eric Eisenberg.
Meanwhile, director Ayer reacted to these negative reviews via Twitter. He wrote, ?Prefiero morir de pie que vivir de rodillas – Emiliano Zapata,? which means ?I?d prefer to die standing, than to live on my knees.? He then followed it by, ?Zapata quote is my way of saying I love the movie and believe in it. Made it for the fans. Best experience of my life.?
Clearly, Ayer does not care what the critics are saying about Suicide Squad. How about you? Do you think the critics are precise in saying that the movie is a ?mess?? Or, do you think it could live up to the hype it has created? Share your thoughts in the comment section below. The movie is going to hit the cinemas on August 5.
