Steve Harvey will once again host the Miss Universe 2017. The contest is scheduled to take place on January 30, 2017 in Philippines.
Harvey will be still hosting the Miss Universe pageant despite his mistake in the previous pageant. In last season he mistakenly announced Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia as the new Miss Universe but the actual winner was Pia Wurtzbach of Philippines. Although, Wurtzbach was finally crowned Miss Universe, Harvey?s mistake caused so many controversies.
Tourism Undersecretary of Philippines, Kat de Castro confirmed the involvement of Harvey as a host. She told that Harvey want to personally apologize to the Filipinos for the incident that occurred in the Miss Universe 2015 pageant he hosted. She added that the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte was surprised to learn that Harvey will be returning as host, reported Rappler.
“He wants to apologize to the Filipinos who were hurt because of what happened,” de Castro said.
Rappler has also reported that both Wurtzbach and Gutierrez have already forgiven Harvey for his mistake. The contenders appeared in a show in January to speak to him after the mistake.
It is reported that Harvey signed three year contract with the Miss Universe organization in 2015. That means he still have two years contract to host the show.
Meanwhile, Philippines authorities are excited to conduct the contest. Confirming the statement that the show will be held in Philippines, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said, “We have a president who comes from Mindanao, and our Miss Universe is from Mindanao, so I think this is the best time for us to do the Miss Universe here in the Philippines.”
“So I would like to inform everybody that the Miss Universe beauty pageant will be on January 30, 2017 here in the Philippines,” Teo added.
This is the third time that Philippines will host Miss Universe. The Philippines has so far hosted the Miss Universe pageant in 1974 and 1994, reported ABS-CBN News.
