With the clock winding down on Steam Summer Sale 2016, you’re probably considering making some last minute purchases. ?Before you make a beeline for the big AAA titles, why not take a look at these lesser known games first.
Read Only Memories
If you’re looking a nice story-driven adventure, look no further than Read Only Memories. Set in the retro-future world of Neo San Francisco, this charming point-and-click title plays like a cyberpunk TellTale Game. The plot features pretty nuanced takes on many of the usual futuristic themes like Artificial Intelligence, Sentient Machines, and Transhumanism. Over the course of your journey, you’ll interact with several of the city?s most colorful inhabitants. ROM also features a very cool electronic soundtrack, so consider picking that up as well.
Empyrion Galactic Survival
Survival games are a dime a dozen on Steam, but we think Empyrion deserves some mention. If you’re desperate for a game to take up some time while waiting for No Man’s Sky, look no further. This interstellar sandbox combines common survival game mechanics like item gathering and crafting with sci-fi exploration and discovery. You and your friends can build planetary bases, craft your own capital ship, and eventually, seamlessly fly between the surfaces of different planets.
It is still in Early Access, but already has enough content to sink countless hours into. The developers are also constantly adding new features and mechanics, so don’t be afraid to jump in now.
To The Moon
If you’re looking for something to tug at your heartstrings, give To The Moon a shot. This 8-bit RPG features an extremely affecting story about helping a dying man achieve his last wish. Saying anymore would spoil the fun, but trust us when we say this is truly one of the most emotional stories you can experience in gaming.
