Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Makes Way for a Stronger Ezra?

By on

There will be enough courage, wisdom, strength and power in the all new Star Wars Rebels Season 3 as creator Dave Filoni talks about the upcoming animated series. The battle between massive characters like Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Grand Moff Tarkin and the Grand Admiral Thrawn will deliver immense action to the series.

Ezra?s power will be tested through Darth Maul?s taunts. Darth Maul is now the villain, the one that has relinquished his affiliation with the Empire. Filoni said that fans will be seeing more of these scenes with Ezra having the neutral approach to either side. Ezra?s power will be tested, with previous reports on Star Wars Rebels Season 3 linking him to having joined the dark side. Whatever season 3 would usher in, we?ll be seeing a stronger, older Ezra. He looks different too, sporting a new haircut and some scars on his face. He even has a new lightsaber (we?re hoping to see him construct one), after getting his ?toy? lightsaber destroyed in the 2nd season. All in all, he?s more serious and adult now, and with the Sith Holocron he kept in the season 2 finale, we?re all wondering where season 3 will take his powers, and more importantly, where it will take him as a Jedi.

Meanwhile, Filoni also talked about the new villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. The story concept has been years in the making and Filoni did not want to waste that with a lame villain story. He said ?After having the material so long ago, there were things that stuck with me about the character. The biggest one for me was the art. The [analysis] and culture of art was how he dissected and defeated his opponents. We kept that very much alive.?

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 will introduce how the major battles of these big characters will unfold. Star Wars Rebels Season 2 saw how Kanan was blinded by Darth Maul?s lightsaber, while Ezra struggled between the light and the dark. Filoni, however, revealed that Darth Maul?s fate was supposed to end on the Malachor, succumbing to Darth Vader. No wonder he previously said that Star Wars Rebels Season 3 will not be about Darth Vader and Darth Maul?s battle.

In his interview, Filoni said ?A lot of the Malachor arc was originally more about Vader confronting Maul. It became clear to me as the emotional content of the stories developed and we worked on it more that that was going to be wrong ? if anything was going to happen to Maul, it would have to happen at its proper time and proper space.?

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 will premiere on Disney XD on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 8:30pm EST.
