‘Star Trek Beyond’ Premiere at San Diego Comic Con: Cast Pays Tribute to Anton Yelchin

With Anton Yelchin?s parents Irina and Victor in attendance at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, “Star Trek Beyond”?producer J.J. Abrams paid tribute to Anton Yelchin. The 27-year-old actor died in a freak accident in his home in San Fernando Valley last June. In his statement during the tribute, Abrams said ?As wonderful as this is to be here with all of you and to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there is something wrong tonight. There is something missing tonight. There is someone missing tonight. Anton Yelchin should be here. Anton’s parents are here, Irina and Victor. We love their son, and if I could ask everyone to have a moment of silence for our dear friend, Anton.”

The cast was in full force at the red carpet on Wednesday, all set to celebrate the premiere of ?Star Trek Beyond? at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con event. And in honor of Yelchin, the cast wore black Star Trek lapel pins. The premiere was attended by some of the cast of the movie, mainly Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana.

Yelchin plays the role of Pavel Chekov in the film and his co-stars only remember him as a good and wonderful human being. John Cho, who plays Sulu in the movie, said ?I just thought it would be appropriate to show our unity in regards to his passing, how much we love him. ? I?m glad we could show our love for him this way.?

Anton Yelchin was found pinned and lifeless between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and his home?s metal gate He was later pronounced dead. ?Star Trek Beyond? is the thirteenth film in the movie franchise and a third in its rebooted series.In July 2016, J.J. Abrams confirmed a fourth installment as Pine and Quinto have signed their contract for a fourth installment, reprising their roles as Kirk and Spock. Chris Hemsworth is also said to join the cast playing the role of Kirk?s father.
