The Internet has gone abuzz, ever since Sony Netherlands released an image with Spyro the Dragon on it. Many are wondering if this will lead to a Spyro PS4 remaster, similar to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. With E3 and the N. Sane Trilogy happening in June, it would be nice seeing Spyro get the same treatment.

Fans on Reddit and NeoGAF have had mixed feelings, with some excited and others more skeptical about the possibilities. Spyro is part of Skylanders after all, so his next appearance could be in another entry of the Activision franchise. With all the hype the N. Sane Trilogy is getting, the sales could lead to another similar trilogy being remade.

Year of the Dragon?

Players were immediately hopeful for a Spyro PS4 remaster once the N. Sane Trilogy was revealed to the masses. Keep in mind that the Crash collection was revealed in last year’s E3, with gameplay footage coming in 2017. Maybe a similar announcement could be made for Spyro, though we will have to wait and see for that.

Crash and his foe Neo Cortex did appear in Skylanders as a way to promote the N. Sane Trilogy. It’s hard to say the same thing will happen for Spyro, since he always appears in this game series. Still, putting him in an image with Kratos, Parappa and Kat is making fans think he is getting a remaster.

Yes for Spyro?

Though Sony hasn’t confirmed a Spyro PS4 remaster, the sales of June’s N. Sane Trilogy could lead to one. After all, Spyro was one of the best games in the original PlayStation, offering large worlds and unique power-ups. The Spyro games developed by Insomniac Games were definitely more ambitious than the Crash ones, offering plenty more gameplay variety with semi open-world.

Like Crash, Spyro didn’t do too well in more advanced consoles, with many dismissing the few entries that arrived on PS2, PS3, Xbox, and Nintendo devices. He became one of the figureheads for Skylanders, which is a sales juggernaut due to toys being needed to play. Though the games are fun for all ages, they don’t offer the classic Spyro gameplay fans want from the dragon.

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be out on June 30 on PS4, with many rumors that it will come out on other consoles afterwards. Currently, fans can download the first three Spyro games on PS3 as PSOne classics. Here is hoping that an N. Sane Trilogy-style remaster will be in the works soon.
