Sony Mobile begins shipment of Xperia Z2 in Singapore through network carriers but is the new flagship smartphone worthy of your money? Here are the top reasons why it is better than Xperia Z1.
Display Screen Type
Sony used TFT display type on Xperia Z1 while IPS LCD on Xperia Z2. Both display types are based on LCD but differs in user experience. TFT or thin film transistor makes LCD more efficient by making wiring reduced and improves display quality. IPS or in-plane switching offers better colour reproduction and accurate viewing angles.
TFT looks washed out if the user views the screen sideways or in tilted angles while IPS LCD keeps the accuracy regardless of viewing angles. Xperia Z2 with IPS maximises the Triluminos and X-Reality engines when viewed from various angles.
Android 4.4 KitKat and Exclusive Update
Out of the box, Xperia Z2 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and also exclusive to get first-hand of the upcoming Android 4.5/5.0 in July 2014. In addition, certain features on Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia are only found on Xperia Z2 since Sony Mobile restricted importing exclusive apps to previous flagship smartphones.
When it comes to performance, buyers will get a set of all-new 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 3200 mAh battery. Additionally, Xperia Z2 features support for microSD cards with 128 GB storage capacity.
Bigger RAM handles more applications running in the background while larger external storage cards enable users to keep more HD videos and music files.
Sony Mobile made several new apps on Xperia Z2 exclusive which will not be ported to Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade for Xperia Z1. Some of these exclusive apps include 4K video recording for larger TV screen viewing, Timeshift video or slow-motion recording, tap to wake up, smart call handling, smart backlight control and Glove mode.
Xperia Z2 beats Xperia Z1 in better audio experience as the latest smartphone features two speakers at the front and boasts multiple sound engines such as digital noise cancellation. Digital noise cancellation enhances music playback enjoyment, especially when paired with earphones or headsets. Users will also enjoy other audio enhancers such as Clear Stereo, Clear Bass and Clear Phase under ClearAudio+ feature.
