Sony Xperia Z2 Suffering from Overheating 4K Video Recording and Chassis Gaps

By on

Sony Xperia Z2 was recently launched in Singapore but users got a ?disappointing surprise due to hardware problems plaguing their handsets. A small gap and force close of the camera app due to overheating caused by 4K video recording have been reported to Sony Mobile.

Small Gap Issue

Sony Xperia Z2 owners in Singapore were not expecting something wrong after purchasing their new handset but they found something odd on the physical design of the smartphone. According to reports, a small gap between the front panel of the handset and the aluminium frame is noticeable and typically appears in the top right section as if the glass was not aligned properly.

Moreover, the small gap is more common and obvious on Xperia Z2 white models which made owners to worry regarding the water resistance featured by the flagship smartphone. Sony Mobile in Singapore acknowledged the issue and addressed consumers on what they should do about it.

?We are aware of some users? concern on the waterproofing capability of the Xperia Z2 due to the presence of gap and are currently looking into this issue. In the meantime, users who wish to (sic) may bring their Xperia Z2 to any service centre to have our staff conduct a water resistant test,? Sony Mobile Singapore?s official statement.

Overheating Camera Problem

Sony Xperia Z2 features a powerful camera and capable of recording 4K video resolution but owners are concerned regarding a major problem. According to user complaints, 4K video recording using Xperia Z2 may cause force close of the camera app due to overheating. Users can simply wait till the device to cool down before using it again for video recording.

?We are aware of some users encountering issues when shooting 4K video for extended periods. Shooting movies in high quality 4K resolution can make significant demands on your phone?s processor and battery, as well as phone memory. Therefore, for the best experience, we recommend you install a high capacity SD card and shoot 4K video in short bursts of no longer than a few minutes at a time,? statement from Sony Mobile Singapore.

It seems like a killjoy to use 4K video recording in just a few minutes and will force users to edit segmented videos for full movie output. Sony Mobile may be planning to release a new firmware to fix 4K video recording overheating issue on Xperia Z2.
