Sony announces Xperia XZ Premium during MWC 2017

Back in February, Sony announced that it will be releasing a Snapdragon 835-powered smartphone sometime this year. At the time, the Xperia XZ Premium is still in its early stage of development and is not quite ready for release yet. This is due to the fact that at the time of announcement, Samsung is still hogging all the supply of the said ARM chip.

Because of the chip shortage, Sony was forced to move the official release of the Xperia XZ Premium farther by a few months. However, it seems like consumers, especially the ones in Germany, will get their hands on the said phone by June 1 at the earliest.

Xperia XZ Premium release date

According to known leaker Roland Quandt, O2 Germany has already announced that its customers will be able to purchase the Sony Xperia XZ Premium starting June 1.

Unfortunately, Sony has yet to confirm if the phone will indeed get released on the said date. However, Quandt has been quite reliable and spot on when it comes to his leaks. He has been leaking details for various mobile devices including the BalckBerry KeyOne and the new Samsung Galaxy S8. And so far, his claims have been verified to be true.

Specs

The news about the Xperia XZ Premium’s is a pretty big deal. For one, it is the second smartphone to be released with the latest Snapdragon 835 chip from Qualcomm.

Secondly, the upcoming phone is the first to have a 4K HDR display with a super-fast camera. The 19-megapixel sensor is capable of taking 960 frames per second for that super slow-mo video.

The only dirt that one could say about the Xperia XZ Premium is that fact that it does not have a bezel-less display. In fact, what it has is a 5.5-inch panel with wide bezels at the top and bottom parts of the screen.

According to earlier reports, Sony’s flagship phone will be priced at around $600. For more tech updates, be sure to check us out at TheBitbag.
