Japanese electronics company Sony has just released an updated Android 4.4.2 OS for its latest flagship models, the Sony Xperia Z2 and Zperia Z2 Tablet. This is the first firmware update by the company since their release of the said devices.
The current over-the-air (OTA) firmware update will carry the Android version 17.1.1.A.0.402 to the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet together with other important improvements. This version is based from a template of 17.1.A.2.XX, had been moved to 17.1.1.A.0.XX and is predicted to bring some noteworthy changes. As such, minor bugs that have been reported by early users of the devices will be addressed as well as a number of other stability issues. In other words, this update will make users benefit from a more stable and enhanced Android KitKat user interface.
Perhaps the first improvement that users will notice is about touchscreen sensitivity. Commands will be enforced more rapidly and multi-touch recognition is also boosted. Although Sony has not released the changelog yet, tech experts see this feature as a major improvement.
A concern being reported by many Sony Xperia Z2 users involves the device?s tendency to overheat when recording 4K videos. It?s possible that this update will attempt to resolve that issue. There are also complaints that users are experiencing a short scrolling lag while a PlayStation-style live wallpaper is used in the background. This Android version is set to fix that too and provide a smoother experience.
The update is currently being rolled out to both the LTE and HSPA+ models of the Sony Xperia Z2 phone and also on the Wi-Fi and LTE variants of the Xperia Z2 tablet. This 17.1.1.A.0.402 firmware is available OTA in Singapore, Germany, and selected regions in Europe. Users in the UK will have to wait a little longer as there are no signs of the update?s release in the island nation yet. It?s important to note that since this is an OTA roll out, it will be offered gradually and in stages so not all owners of the Sony Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet Z2 can download the software update at the same time.
