Some of the best features of Windows 8.1’s developer preview

By on

We mentioned on a previous post?about how to install Windows 8.1 on any Windows device running Windows 8. It?s for those who can?t wait to check out the new features that are due to be launched later this year. It basically asks the user to sign up for a developer?s account and the 8.1 updates can then be used.

Below are some of the Windows 8.1?s best features.

Action Center ? Windows Phone users will now have a centralized location for notifications as well as allow access to settings. This Action Center can be accessed from anywhere by simply swiping down from the top of the user?s screen, just like how Android and iOS works.

Cortana ? Cortana is basically Window?s version of iOS? Siri and Android?s Google Now. Windows 8.1 is where they introduce their version of a personal assistant residing in you smartphone. It works similar to Siri and Google Now, as it learns from you and gathers information in a virtual Notebook for better, faster, and more accurate future searches and references.

Data Sense and Wi-Fi Sense ? Data Sense has always been a popular feature with Windows Phone users and the latest update makes it even more useful. Users can see which apps take up the most data in a month, with an interface that?s easy to use. It can also help users save data with its new ?high savings? mode. Wi-Fi Sense makes it fast and convenient for users to easily connect to free public Wi-Fi hotspots automatically, further lowering the user?s data costs and increasing savings.

Installing Apps on a microSD card ? finally! Probably one of the most anticipated updates to hit the Windows Phone platform, the ability to install Apps directly on to a microSD card to save on that precious built in phone storage of your phones, that are usually quite limited in space. Of course, your phone has to have a microSD card and slot for it to work.

Customizations for the Start Screen ? this is another much awaited update. Windows Phone 8.1 users will now be able to set a background image on their Start Screens. You?ll also be able to display more Live Tiles on your screen as well. It is quite useful for those phones with smaller displays.

These are only some of the updates available, and it shows that Windows is catching up with Android and iOS in some ways. Hopefully they?ll continue to update fast and also make innovations.

How do you like these updates so far? Let us know in the comments below.
