Snapchat?s latest?innovation is ?spectacular? given how Google already had the innovation before hand. But looking through it, Snapchat Spectacles downright stomps the Google optical head-mounted display. Why? Because it is more fun and it?s something the new device can proudly feature against Google Glass.

So, how do the Snap Spectacles work? Apparently, users can shoot short videos in first-person mode and readily post them on the social media service Snapchat. From a regular person?s point of view, the Snapchat Spectacles are no more than just a glass toy.

The Snap Spectacles are actually sunglasses, with integrated video cameras. Snapchat?s main purpose for creating the Spectacles is for people to be able to capture special moments and have them watch again for a longer period of time.

Snap’s Description of the Spectacles

The team that developed the Snap Spectacles introduced it saying ?Imagine one of your favorite memories. What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it? That?s why we built Spectacles. We?ve created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day?s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses ? available in 3 different colors!?

The Spectacles directly connect to Snapchat through Bluetooth and WiFi. A circular video format will store the memories recorded from the Spectacles for future viewing. The circular video can be played in fullscreen in all platforms. It records the human?s perspective of 115 degree view.

According to CNBC, the Snap Spectacles costs around $129.99. Josh Elman of Greylock Partners, during an interview with CNBC, said ?I think Snapchat is pushing the edges of what the camera is. I think their brand is so strong with people in their early 20s that they might sell a lot more of these than anybody is predicting. … They’re positioning it as this fun toy for people to engage with, not something that you need to think about as your next big technology investment.?
